Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
I currently provide EMDR therapy virtually in NJ, NY, & FL. EMDR therapy is just as effective virtually as in person. I use a bilateral stimulation website, which allows clients to experience the eye movements with pleasing colors, nature backgrounds, and sounds. Clients are also able to use tapping if they'd prefer, or purchase their own tappers to hook up to the computer. The first few sessions with me are information gathering, getting a full history and view of the client, and making sure EMDR is an appropriate modality for the client at that time. The client is also provided regulation tools and skills as a part of EMDR preparation to help support as needed between sessions.

EMDR can be helpful for people who:
-Have tried talk therapy and still feel stuck.
-Have had a recent traumatic event occur.
-Get triggered in daily life and can identify the root cause.
-Feel anxious all the time.
-Nervous System feels constantly activated.
-Understand their trauma but continue to experience somatic or body disturbances.
-Would like to improve their public speaking skills and reduce anxiety surrounding presentations.
-Are struggling with imposter syndrome.
FAQs for EMDR
How does EMDR work?
EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation (alternate tapping, sounds, or eye movements) to target specific traumatic material (images, thoughts, feelings, and body disturbances) . I collaborate with clients to explore & identify the targets they'd like to work through.
Once I Start EMDR Therapy, Can I also do Talk Therapy?
Quick answer, is Yes. EMDR is not required to happen every session or even weekly. EMDR therapy can be done less frequently, it just means it will potentially take longer to resolve each target.
What if I'm having Anxiety about doing EMDR wrong?
It is the therapist's responsibility to make sure the client is initially focusing on the right content and is staying on the right track as a part of the EMDR protocol. It is common for clients to worry about doing EMDR wrong, but it is rarely what actually happens. After a couple EMDR sessions, you know more of what to expect and that anxiety subsides.
How do I find a quality EMDR therapist?
You want to make sure they are listed on emdria.org as either a trained, certified, or consultant EMDR therapist. If a therapist is "certified", it means not only were they trained but then they completed a number of consultation sessions with an expert consultant in EMDR.
