How do you know you are ready to take part in therapy? Is there a right or wrong answer? lt is totally up to you whether you are ready or not. Sometimes people don't know if they are ready to tackle something difficult until they actually try it first.
When you enter into a therapeutic relationship with a therapist, treatment goals are typically decided on by the client, which helps to guide their time in therapy. You are the captain of your own therapy! If you are not ready to address a challenging part of your life, that's your choice. You just want to make sure you're getting the most out of therapy, if you are participating, and paying!
What purpose is it serving for you? Is it the therapeutic relationship itself, to have someone to talk to that is non-judgmental and is unfamiliar with your family or friends. Maybe you are getting helpful feedback and insight into your life? If at this time you're not ready to be fully transparent and open to the therapy process, then maybe it is good to wait until you're ready to open up. Either way, it can't hurt to explore your options and call a few therapists to see if you connect with anyone.
